This is a bit “after the horse has bolted” but I’m still interested to know what people think.
It was a conversation I was having on LinkedIn that sparked my interest…
Me…
BBC to axe Radio 6 and Asian Network you say? Of course that will make a massive difference to their budgets – http://tinyurl.com/yfkw6x3
Delia…
ah but craig apparently it makes the balance sheet £9m lighter , although not until three years time and radio 6 could be mainstream by then ! Gosh Anyone would think that the bbc was there to provide a public service based on diversity … ooops no sorry ! wrong again .. we need more shit on telly on sat nights.
Me…
But apparently they might be doing a u-turn now.
They should sack Chris Moyles – he earns enough out of his poxy Weird Al Yankovic rip off “Parody” CDs anyway.
Delia…
And of course the whole ” we are going to axe” radio 6 news blast could just be a pr stunt …. the Use it or lose it style – remember the Save “Salad Cream”…campaign…. Nothing like drumming up public sympathy to get some superb discussion, buzz and ultimate column inches ..the brits love “Save it campaigns” it !
or am i just cynical pr girly ? (well may be a teensy weensy bit)

Joining in the cynicism, it also paves the way for an increase in the licence fee. They have already mention “90p”. It’s easier to swallow if your paying to save something you will actually miss.
Funny how they didn’t say the were axing BBC3 programmes like “The boy whose arms, legs and arse fell off”. I can’t see that generating much of a Facebook backlash.
That said, I do have to say I love the Beeb and wouldn’t mind paying a bit more on the licence fee. Yes, they do produce some dross, but who doesn’t?
What other media provider gives you such a diverse range of programming and such a high volume of quality for less than £15 a month. I’d hazard a guess that most Sky subscribers pay well over that!
Delia…
Perhaps we should start a poll of which BBC TV programmes we would save from the beancounter axeman/woman – if a cloud hung over all of the Beebs output.
And whilst we’re on the subject of so called tiny tax hikes… what about the proposed 50 p on phone lines in order to bolster the fund to get this country set up with a decent broadband infrastucture….
Best not get me ranting on that one !!!
